Eminem on Family Guy, Other News & Photos

Eminem has been many things, from a world-famous, multiplatinum rapper to an Academy Award winner. He was once even animated into a series of cartoon shorts. Now, Eminem is taking his animated career even further, co-hosting Fox’s “animation domination” programming bloc with none other than Stewie Griffin from “Family Guy.”

“It was a thrill to work with Stewie,” Eminem said in a press release. “I’m a big fan of talking babies and their humor.”

The seemingly unlikely pair are teaming up to make a MySpace music announcement Sunday night (MySpace and Fox are owned by the same parent company, News Corporation). Perhaps it will be a surprise/secret MySpace concert, or maybe just Eminem thanking you for the friend add. Only time will tell.

Of course, that’s not the only connection Stewie has to rap music. Back in 2003, he guest-starred on the MTV News VMA preshow to review some of the nominees. We couldn’t help but pull that clip out of the vault and dust it off while we get psyched for Shady’s announcement on Sunday.

If that’s not enough Eminem for you, get your fill when Marshall does three nights of “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” He’ll be keeping America up late Friday, Tuesday (the day his Relapse album is released) and the following Friday, with that last performance live via satellite from Detroit.

Eminem Admits He Almost Died From Drug Overdose “I Have Compassion For My Mother”

The iconic MC tells Vibe magazine in its forthcoming issue that during a relapse, he overdosed on pills he acquired from an “acquaintance” and almost became one of music’s greatest casualties.
“My doctor told me those mysterious new pills were methadone, which is used to wean heroin addicts off dope,” he told the mag in its forthcoming “Real Rap” issue.

“Had I known it was methadone, I probably wouldn’t have taken it. But as bad as I was back then, I can’t even say 100 percent for sure. My doctor told me the amount of methadone I’d taken was equivalent to shooting up four bags of heroin. Even when they told me I almost died, it didn’t click.”

Em admitted to the publication that he was an addict and through his uncontrolled dependence, he began to identify with his mother, with whom he’s had several public battles over the last decade.

“It’s no secret I had a drug problem,” he said. “If I was to give you a number of Vicodin I would actually take in a day? Anywhere between 10 to 20. Valium, Ambien, the numbers got so high I don’t even know what I was taking.”

After suffering a knee injury that required surgery, he was not prescribed painkillers, which led him to search his house for drugs he’d hidden.

“I started looking around my house to see if I had a stash box of Vicodin,” he said. “I’m ransacking my house, finally find something in the basement, in a little napkin, seven and a half Vicodin — the big extra-strength ones — and a few Valium.” He relapsed, and soon admitted he was an addict.

“It never once hit me that drug addiction runs in my family,” he said. “Now that I understand that I’m an addict, I definitely have compassion for my mother. I get it.”

Eminem told the magazine that he’s been sober for a year, and that making his forthcoming LP, Relapse, due May 19 — from which “Old Time’s Sake,” a new song featuring Dr. Dre, leaked today (Monday May 4) — “I wanted to make an overall statement — I’m back. It was a slow process. You gotta remember I hadn’t recorded a song sober in seven years. So it took me awhile to even feel like I could record a song sober … I don’t know the last time I shot a video sober, without drinking or taking anything. It’s been years.

“I almost feel like a little kid again with rap,” he continued. “I wanna play around with different flows. If I don’t feel like it’s what I’m fully capable of, if there’s one weak line, I wanna change it. Rap was my drug. It used to get me high and then it stopped getting me high. Then I had to resort to other things to make me feel that. Now rap’s getting me high again.”

More Excerpts From Eminem’s XXL Interview: Speaks On Proof, Weight, Rehab and Pimpin Curly!

About Proof’s death …

When I say I went into a dark place, it feels like I literally crawled into a hole. There where days I’d sit around all day and take pills and try to numb myself. It was almost an excuse for me to take more pills, like I just lost Proof, so it’s ok for me to take a couple of pills. I was spiralling out of control with my thoughts, with the drugs, with everything. When I would go into the studio, I kept trying to write songs about him. I think I might have wrote and recorded at least 5 or 6 songs about him. None of them came out the way I wanted them to, and all of them made me depressed. All of them made me go deeper into that hole… Nothing I wrote was good enough for him. Everything was like, self loathing.
Did you ever take any personal responsibility for what happened to him?
Yeah, I went through that kind of thing as well. I felt like “Well maybe if I would have been with him at the club that night… He knows I was trying to get him to chill out and stop going to the club so much”.

How much did you react to all the conflicting information that came out immediately following the incident?

I got a bunch of conflicting stories, a bunch of conflicting things and none of them ever made sense to me. There were things that I”d heard that they were saying that Proof shot the dude first. It’s so not his character to do that. There were other stories that matched what I knew Proof would have did. I had to go through the process in my head of like, regardless of what happened, it happened. It’s not gonna bring him back. I don’t know if I’ve accepted it is the right word but I’m dealing with it. Life for me will never be the same.

With all the hype surrounding your comeback and with the terrible state of the record business, the hip hop business in particular, do you feel like you’re coming back to save your label, or hip hop as a genre, or even the music industry as a whole?

I don’t know if I feel like I’m coming back to save anything like that. I mean obviously,if I can you know save the label and help generate more money for that, that’s great too. But the truth is, i get bored just sitting around. I’m ready to be back out there. I love to be respected for the music that I make and that’s what I’m in it for.
The beautiful thing about this record is, I don’t expect it to do anything… Money is not necessarily something that I need anymore, so I’m doing it because I want to do it. I’m doing it because I want people to hear the music and like the music.. if people like it, cool. If they don’t they, don’t. I certainly would like the benefits of what would come with it. If it could help generate more money for the label then that’s good. But at the end of the day, it’s just about the music.

Pictures of you came out last year where it looked like you’d gained a lot of weight. You’re back looking real chiseled now. What happened?

I gained a bunch of weight in my time off. I got lazy. I was eating a lot, just because the pills make you feel hungry. Then just this past year, I got clean, I got sober, and I started running. I had a knee surgery last year but as soon as I could, I hit the treadmill. So I run every day. The last couple of weeks, I’ve been up to 10 miles a day. I’ve been trying to really push myself. Just to see how much I could actually run, but I don’t know what the f**k I’m doing. At the end of the day, I’m an addict. So I have addictive behavior. So I’m obsessive compulsive about a lot of things. I’m obsessive compulsive about my music. I’m obsessive compulsive about working out. I can’t do nothing in moderation. You’d think that the the signs like all the addiction runs in my family, I would have been a little more hip to that. But I just… I guess I wasn’t.

When did you know that it was time for you to go to rehab?

There were a bunch of moments where I felt like, I want to do it, I want to do it. Ah, maybe now is not the time. Maybe I’ll just do this for a little longer. I started realizing like I took a break from the spotlight and I felt like I wanted to be with my family and spend more time with my kids and stuff like that. But the whole time, I’m walking around the house high most of the time. So I’m missing out on the best parts of their lives. There were several moments. And it got to the point where the guilt that I started feeling inside for doing the s**t… I wasn’t fooling anybody but myself. I had to come to that realization. At the time, I’m 35 years old, how long am I going to keep doing this? I felt like I needed to grow up, and if I didn’t grow up, it was like now or never.

Besides Dre, you’ve been working with 50 Cent again too. How is your relationship with 50? He’s going through this whole battle with Rick Ross, with this Pimpin’ Curly stuff. how do you view all of it?

Mine and 50′s relationship has always been the same. It’s always been good. If anything, we’ve gotten closer in the last few years. 50 will just come to my house and stay the night. Stay the weekend in one of the bedrooms and just hang out. And we talk about s**t. I mean a lot of our talk is about music you know. But we just – we talk about s**t and we just make jokes and hang out. It doesn’t always have to be about business. You know, he’s going through this Rick Ross thing which is kinda his thing. I guess, you know, at the moment, it’s just let 50 do 50. I think that the Pimpin’ Curly s**t is f**kin’ hilarious though. I’m sorry, to me that’s when 50′s at his best. When he’s doing the funny s**t. In real life, 50′s a f**kin’ clown man. He’s actually a really funny dude.

Ca$his Talks His Album, Eminem’s “Relapse” & More

Shady Records recording artist, Cashis, is getting ready to release his debut album, The Art Of Dying. HIPHOPisHERE.com got the chance to talk to him about the album, what he has been up to lately, new projects, and Eminem’s Relapse.

Q: What’s good with the Shady Capo? Thanks for doing this interview with HHiH.

No doubt fammo. I’m still breathing and I’m healthy, so, I’m surviven to the best of my ability.

Q: What have you been up to lately?

I’ve been kinda restricted to stayen in Cali, for certain circumstances, which won’t allow me to be permitted travel outside of the state right now. So, I’ve been an extreme herbivore, along with hitten the gym alot, doin hella cardio, cleanen my smoked out lungs, so that I’m able to give the best performance, everynite I perform. Spending a lot of time with my babies, and providen for them.

Q: Let’s talk about your upcoming debut album. You changed the name from Lose Cannon to The Art Of Dying. How would you describe the album?

You will literally watch me die. I’ma spoil it for errbody, and let you know that I die in the end lol. It’s an album, that the day to day person, can relate to the whole way. No over gangsta cliche rap, no I wanna be the most baccpaccinest baccpaccer, no, I wanna tricc off on females, and waste my rent money at the club stuff… Jus real life. My real Life.

Q: What guest features and producers do you have on the album?

Rikanatti, Khalil, Reef, Jake 1, Neffew, Eminem and a few others, but, I don’t know the names of the producers, but I do know the beat! As for rappers, zero as of yet. I have the traccs, that made the album, so, now I am reachen out to the artists that I feel will match the records. And I have everyone confirmed, with no problem. I will deliver some of the names in our next interview

Q: Can you confirm any of the track names?

I haven’t named them all yet. They are sequenced in order tho.. “Miana” is a record, named after my first child, and it is the record that takes the listener into another zone, of believing in what I do. Em produced that. It’s the deepest, non corny record I’ve ever heard. Honestly. “Grinden” is abot to drop, and alot of folks been anticipaten that record, Matt Alonzo, get the camera crew ready G, cuz it’s gametime! And my ghetto quaran version of where I’m from, titled “Get Out The Way.” I flipped up names to protect my freedom, and not to dry snitch on these wimpy weak girly-boys. And I have “Goodbye 2 Me,” over a Konvict beat. But, the main thing is, the beats never overshadow the words. It’s a classic LP, that shows my depth as a person and as an artist.

Q: You recently put out the single “Jus Anutha Day.” How has the response been on this?

It’s been great! Shout out 2 Angela Yee for being the first one to run with it. I appreciate that for life. It’s a Khalil tracc, and I didn’t know it was a Khalil tracc til it was leaked out. That record was sposed to be on Loose Cannon, it was recorded in early 07, and it’s even more relevant today, in my opinion.

Q: Will you put out any more singles before the album drops?

Without a question I will. We will be filming videos and really doing the big push. I jus had to let the consumer know, that I’m still here, and although you may not have heard me droppen a million mixtapes and songs, like I did previously, I haven’t turned against what I know, I just been caught up in day to day liven. And I thank everybody for supporten the record. It’s getten to be everywhere now. I truly appreciate the support.

Q: And the big question. Around when do you think the album will be released?

We’ve been waiten for the re-emergence of Shady, so now that he’s bacc with a release date, we can set 50’s date, and then my date. By the end of september at the latest, I will have CD’s in the marketplace. Atleast, that’s what I’m told from the bosses. And if they lie to me, they lie to the public, and we don’t tolerate liars round here, at this label. Em, 50, Ca$his. Checc Em’s Billboard Mag interview, he says it himself.

Q: Are you working on any other new projects you can tell us about?

I have 227 The Album, comen out 7-28-09 Digitally thru Bogish Brand Entertainment, distributed by INgrooves/Universal. And every quarter for one calendar year, I will release a project under that imprint. I’m tryna get that Flo-Rida money… lol for real, also Mitchy Slick and I are doing a group LP called Gang Terms. It’s exactly as G as the guys rappin on it. We recorden it in The Yay Area. It gives me a breath of fresh air, and a break from doin what’s required of me for my family’s survival. I jus go and record, and Mitchy and my bro bro Big Will, keep me tippen while I’m there. So, it’s all love. And Myself , Young De, Kadillak Kaz, Preme, and some of the BBG extended family, are doing Homeland Security “Border Control” I have several offers for that project also, so, once it’s recorded, we’ll sell it to a label, and let them push it out to the masses.

Q: Will you be doing any touring this year? Maybe go overseas for a few shows?

Most Definitely, Japan, Italy, The UK, Australia, Canada, Dubai, tour dates are already contracted, I can’t travel out of the country again, until a few situations are resolved bacc home first. What can you do, but take it as it come to you.

Q: I’m sure a lot of people would want to know this. Have you heard any tracks off of Eminem’s Relapse?

I’ve only heard what the fans heard. I want it to be a surprise to me, because I am a fan first. I anticipate a classic LP.

Q: What do you think it will be like?

I can only assume that it is his best work. Because The King Mathers LP, was the best album I have heard, and with him scrappen that for newer material, it can only mean, that he is in a musical zone.

Q: That was all the questions I had for you. Anything you want to say to those who are reading this? The word is yours.

Thanks for taking the time out of ur day, to pay attention to what I have to say. To all my fans worldwide, I love ya’ll, and to my new fans, or borderline fans, give me a shot, and I won’t let u down… If I die before my album drops, or during the height of my release, recognize the authenticity of the material… It’s deeper than rap, and deeper than publicity stunts, it’s who I am, and what I represent, which is the struggle , which we all live in.

Eminem’s Next Single, ’3 A.M.,’ Leaks Online!

http://cloudkickers.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/04/shady.jpg

Rapper says darker track is representative of his Relapse album, due May 19.
With all the hoopla surrounding the release of Eminem’s first solo album since 2004, it seems like everyone is forgetting about Slim Shady.

Well, Em’s evil rhyme persona blasts his way back on the Detroit lyricist’s “3 A.M.,” a track from the upcoming Relapse that leaked online Thursday night (April 23). Over a menacing Dr. Dre beat, Shady exhibits a pronounced zigzag flow as he paints the picture of a fictional late-night homicidal crusade.

“I duck and I splash/ Lights and gas/ Last night was a blast/ I can’t quite remember when I had/ That much fun with a half-pint of the Jack/ My last Vic and half/ A flashlight up Kim Kardashian’s ass,” the rapper spits on the third verse of the more-than-five-minute opus.

Eminem appeared on his Sirius satellite radio channel Shade 45 on Thursday morning and discussed his project. The rapper said Dr. Dre produced the majority of the album, with the exception of one track Em did himself. He said stepping away from the boards enabled him to play with his flow more, resulting in different rhyme styles from the rapper.

“I tried to pick the [Dre beats] that challenged me, rhythm-wise,” Em said. “I ended up experimenting with a bunch of different flows. I try to do that every album, but this time I had a chance to go all out with it. Make every flow different and pick unique beats.”

Em also confirmed that he had filmed a video recently for “3 A.M.” The rapper said the clip was shot in Detroit and would be the next video from his project, which is due May 19. Em called the darker song more in line with what his album would sound like. The first single from the effort, “We Made You,” is a spoof track that takes aims at celebrities.
